Dorrie The Little Witch

How many of you recognize Dorrie? I spent so many happy hours with her books when I was little.  It’s funny, from the youngest age I can remember I always gravitated towards anything to do with witches. “The worst witch” was one of my favorite movies.  It stayed with me for my entire life as I realized that I was one. Dorrie will always hold a very special place in my heart.

The Dorrie the Little Witch series consists of about 20 different books and I’m quite confident I’ve read them all many many times.  Patricia Coombs is the wonderful lady behind the magic of the series.  She not only wrote the books but illustrated them as well.  Patricia started out writing the books for her daughters.  They were inspired by her daughters and their Siamese cat named Dingbat who appears as a black cat named Gink in the series.

The first book in the series, Dorrie’s Magick was published in 1962.

Her final book was Dorrie and the Haunted schoolhouse in 1992.  I was in high school at this point. 🙂

Dorrie and the Fortune Teller was one of my favorites.  It’s funny how early in my life the writing was on the wall for a career in the future right? 🙂

I also remember this one being a favorite.

What I loved about Dorrie was that her socks never matched.  I loved that no matter how hard she tried she got into trouble and things didn’t always work out perfectly and that was ok.  I loved all of her adventures.  Funny enough I do believe that I found the blue witch a bit scary! I think it was her? I remember one or two books that I found a bit scary. I can’t remember why.  I may grab a book to take a walk down memory lane and see if I can remember more.  I’m sure I will.  As I’ve been looking for pictures of here for you, I’ve been having so much fun.

Her books are collectible and quite expensive on eBay. If you are looking for them and don’t mind that they aren’t used, you can get them new on Amazon. I was incredibly excited to find that.

I also found this website on Etsy that makes pins!! I have several of them that I love.  If you love Dorrie as much as I do you can find them here: Bedlam Supply Co  When you go to her page there’s a place to search on the left.  Just put in Dorrie and they will come up. They seem to come in and out of stock. I was talking with a friend about them the other day, as she loved Dorrie as a child as well, and they didn’t have as many. Then she posted a bunch more.  Now that I’m writing this to you she’s down to one.   If she is out when you look for her I would bet if you message her she will put up more.  I think she has the ability to make them as people order them.

Patricia Coombs is apparently 95 today! From what I can see, she lives in Los Angeles California.

Have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong
