The Pendulum was the first divination tool that I worked with and it’s still a tool that I use frequently in my work today.
With pendulums you will find that you can work with any pendulum that you wish…however there are certain pendulums that you will work better with. It’s similar with tarot decks. If you can read tarot you can read almost all decks…however some you can read easier than others and some you will find just click with your energy and you can get more information from them.
I started my journey with pendulums so many moons ago now. I was in a dinosaur and fossil shop with my children and I was enjoying a section of the store that had a lot of stones. I’ve always been drawn to stones so I was pretty excited about all the different stones they had to offer. They had a display set up on their counter of pendulums and at that time I really didn’t know anything about them.
I selected the Rainbow Moonstone pendulum that you see in the picture above. It’s the second one from the left. It immediately felt at home in my hand and I started using it in the store. I noticed the woman looking at me a bit strange as it swung in my hand and then she started to smile. The pendulum is still my main pendulum today. I almost fell over when I took a class to learn how to use it and figured out that I already did. It’s funny how you can carry some things with you. Rainbow Moonstone is also my favorite stone all these years later.
About a year later I was in Mystic Village in Mystic Connecticut. They had an amazing New Age store there and I found a beautiful selection of pendulums. One of them in particular caught my attention…the one next to my Moonstone one. I honestly didn’t think I needed more than one so I set it back down that day. Wouldn’t you know it kept coming to me? It was in my thoughts, in my dreams, I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I called the shop keeper and asked if she still had it. We arranged payment over the phone and she mailed it to me. Today I know that it is Labradorite, the sister stone to Moonstone. They both are always on my desk and I use them both for my work. Where Moonstone has a bit more gentle and dreamy energy that helps to enhance intuition and offer protection, labradorite is very grounded in it’s energy and also protective. I use it when I need a definite yes or no answer or am working with stronger energy.
For those of you that work with stones you may find that if you work with pendulums the stones that they are made of may influence your energy in working with them. I’ll give you another example. I was watching America’s Got Talent with my kids the other day. A magician came on and asked the audience to have a pendulum. I definitely have no shortage of pendulums so I grabbed one for my son as my daughter has her own. I gave him the labradorite one. This is the first time that he’s tried to use it. I paused the show and took a few minutes with him. He was amazed as it started to work. However the results were incredibly small. I wondered if it was because it was his first time or something more. He is incredibly sensitive to energy and stones. I gave him my Moonstone one. He got the biggest smile as it started working for him. How did I know he wasn’t just moving his hand? Well that genuine smile is unmistakable. Also he had different results which he didn’t understand.
You can have different results with pendulums. Whenever you start working with one you always want to ask it to show you yes, show you know, and show you unknown. While most of mine use a forward circle for yes, a backward for no and a side to side for unknown I do have another one that is completely different. I have a pendulum that I use for spirit work that only does lines. Interesting right? That pendulum is the fourth one in with the crystal ball. I was working with Sheilaa Hite training and that pendulum came to me. It is only used for spirit work or medium work or it gets cranky and acts bizarre. Isn’t that funny? It’s amazing how energy works.
The one to the far right is for healing work. You can see the chakra beads at the top. If I am doing healing work I will call upon this pendulum. You may find the more that you do with pendulums the more you will want to have. Sometimes they work better for certain things or with certain people. The short explanation is that it all has to do with energy so don’t be afraid to experiment.
The final one to show you today is all the way to the left. This is a handmade pendulum that Earl made me using soapstone. I just love it. If you are interested in crafting you can make pendulums out of so many different things. Soapstone is easy to carve. I’ve seen some absolutely beautiful wooden ones. The type of wood you use can influence it’s energy.
