This morning I was working on a tarot reading when I noticed a bird sitting in the tree across from my house. I got excited thinking it was the red-tailed hawk who often sits there or on the wire but I thought she looked quite a bit smaller today!
I called Earl to try to zoom in on her with his camera so we could get a better look thinking perhaps it was a Falcon or something and we figured out that this beautiful bird across the street was a Cooper’s Hawk. It’s the first time that I’ve seen or noticed one in this area. The thing that really helped us to identify her were the distinct stripes on her tail.
The Cooper’s Hawk is a medium sized hawk native to North America. This hawk is named after William Cooper one of the founders of the New York Lyceum of Natural History. They live for 12 years on average in the wild.
I’m hoping that this is a bird that I will get to see more often where I am. I love hawks and this was most definitely a welcome sight this morning.

It’s a beauty! Nice neighborhood you must live in to have those kind of birds! I love hawks and eagles too!
