Some of my earliest memories have to do with animals and I just love that. I grew up with a dog and a cat. Some of my favorite memories involve days of heavy snow and cold as those were the days that they were allowed to live inside. My dog growing up had a dog house and the cats were always outdoor cats as I had severe allergies. I am now lucky enough to live with several cats as many of you know as I had my allergies successfully treated with allergy shots. It changed my life. Truly.
I have told many of you that I grew up outside or in the woods. I wasn’t allowed to have electronics or television growing up unless it was the weekend so I was always outside on my bike or looking for new animal friends. I don’t know how successful I was but I always tried!
My first encounter with what I believed to be a spirit animal was a white wolf on the mountain that I lived on. It was a time that the wolf called to me and though I had never seen one I was incredibly drawn to the white wolf. It was the first animal that I worked with when I was in my teens. I was incredibly excited when I was at my Grandfather’s garage and he told me that he had seen a white wolf while walking on the mountain behind my house. I’ve told this story many times but I’ve always been told that wolves aren’t in Massachusetts anymore. I might have found what he was referring to though. We have Coywolves a hybrid between the Wolf and Coyote and I’m wondering if that is what he saw. I will always wonder. I just remember how excited I was when he told me that he had seen one.
A few years later I started working with the red-tailed hawk. I love how much the hawk makes her presence known to me. She would sit in this giant pine tree behind my house for years. I would talk to her while I raked the leaves. Now there is a tree that is much closer to my house and she sits in that tree with her partner. I love that we have two now. They also sit on the wires across from my house. I see them pretty frequently and I love that.
I then started working with the Fox about ten years ago. Earl and I have been lucky enough to see them so many times. We found a family of them living in the graveyard. In the Spring we sometimes are lucky enough to see the kits playing. We have another one that walks the road in front of our house pretty much every night. We have also seen so many of them while driving around. It’s another spirit animal that loves to make their presence known.
I have had owls working with me lately. I was mesmerized when I saw one only a few feet from me several years ago. It’s one of those moments that I will never forget. Since then I’ve seen them in the park across the street from my house several times and I can hear them at night. This summer I had one in my backyard calling and it was incredible.
These are just a few of the many spirit animals that I’ve been blessed to work with. Many of you know I have a very close companion, an orange kitty named Loki that is always with me. He’s amazing.
Spirit animals will often make their presence known to you. An owl on the side of the road that is close enough for you to share a moment with. A deer that bounds onto your path and stops to stay with you for a minute or two. Hawks that stay around your house making their presence known. A cat that sits in the road waiting for you to find him and adopt him. These are some of the many stories that I have. If you think back over your life you can probably find examples of several that have come to you. Bring your awareness to it more and watch for those animals. It will help you to find them more and to accept the energy that they are trying to bring to you.
Animals are amazing. I love all the time that I get to spend with them and I can’t imagine not walking a life with them. I know that they are so important to many of you as well.
Have a magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
