My Visit To Sleepy Hollow – The Collection Living in New England I’m no stranger to legends and historical places. One place that I had always wanted to visit was Sleepy Hollow New York. I’m sure all of you are familiar with the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Washington Irving wrote the famous story in 1820. While one of his shortest stories it was likely his best known work. The story is set in the Hudson River Valley and you can see places that are said to have inspired the work.
Last year Earl and I spent the weekend there and I took lots of pictures for you and gathered stories. I ran it in a series of four articles for all of you on Moonsong Daily Magick. This year I published the series of four articles to my website so that you can see them all together.
Part 1 – In part one I introduce you to Sleepy Hollow New York and give you a bit of background on Washington Irving and the area that we visited.
Part 2 – The Old Dutch Church – In part two we explore the Old Dutch Church and the Burial Grounds. This is where it is said that the Headless Horseman rises from. You’ll learn about the history of the church and we will check out a couple of notable people buried there.
Part 3 – Hulda – The Bohemian Witch – In Part 3 I introduce you to Hulda a beautiful soul from Germany know to the people of the town at the time as a witch. Today she is honored for the help that she provided to the town.
Part 4 – The Headless Horseman Bridge – The bridge of the Headless Horseman is probably one of the most famous landmarks in Sleepy Hollow that exists…. or doesn’t exist depending upon how you look at it. In this article we will explore the Bridge of the Headless Horseman.
Missing from these articles is an article on Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. We spent most of our time there. Almost two days in fact. The Cemetery is huge and bordered by everything that you see in the articles that I have shared with you today. It’s one of the most impressive cemeteries that I have ever had the blessings of spending time visiting. So many amazing stories, stones and just treasures are in that cemetery. If you love exploring old cemeteries, this is definitely a place that you don’t want to miss.
This is just one of the many amazing places I found within the cemetery. Some of the most gorgeous stained glass that you will ever see is contained within the mausoleums. We spent hours looking at all the beautiful art in this cemetery.
Amazing monuments just everywhere and so many different types.
Old Gates
Portals
Old Stones… It’s all here. Seriously. It’s not listed as an attraction to see when you go to Sleepy Hollow but it was one of the most incredible places that I’ve been in my life. Behind the cemetery is a long road that you can walk on where the Headless Horseman Bridge is. It’s absolutely gorgeous. If you get the chance to go to Sleepy Hollow and you enjoy history and cemeteries block off a lot of time for this one.
Have an amazingly magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
Jasmeine Moonsong
