Many many years ago now I was at the ocean in New Hampshire looking through all the shops on the boardwalk and I came across my first Star Sapphire. It looked almost identical to the one in the picture above. As I moved the ring in my hand the star on the sapphire shifted and I just thought it was so beautiful. Being a September baby I already have a deep love for Sapphires so finding this gem just made my day.
A true star sapphire is a sapphire that has a rare asterism under specific liking that causes it to have the star like appearance that you see in the picture above. Because it is so rare to find you will find that a lot of star sapphires are what are known as lab sapphires. Just because a gemstone is created in a lab though doesn’t mean it’s a lesser stone. They are physically and chemically the same as the natural stones, they are just created in an optimal environment for them.
