I woke up this morning to the faint smell of a campfire. I opened my window and saw the crystal clear blue skies and the perfect temperature. A cool breeze immediately met my face and honestly it felt more like September. I knew immediately that I wanted to start the day off right and go for a walk. Usually I go right to work and do a walk in the evening but there was no chance I wanted to miss this.
As I walked out the door that smell hit me….. the campfire. I noticed that it was my neighbor across the street. I live on an old country road. It gets a decent amount of traffic but I am lucky to have a field behind me and my neighbor has a hill filled with wildflowers and grasses and their house is down on the river behind the park.
Growing up I spent a lot of time camping. My parents owned land up in the mountains and pretty much every weekend during the Summer I spent up there going river stomping as I called it and reading books next to the fireplace. I would leave with bags stuffed with books and read for hours. I was an absolute bookworm. When i wasn’t reading I was building forts, looking for salamanders and magickal things and following the river or swimming in the lake. The smell of campfires definitely is a positive association for me and reminds me of all that time outside.
It’s funny how something like that can instantly calm you and take you back to happy memories. They have had that little fire going all day today and I have truly enjoyed the occasional smell of it coming through my house. They are far enough away that it’s not overpowering. Can you think of smells like that in your life? How about things like books, birthday cakes, spring flowers, rain…if you think about it I bet that you can come up with a lot of different smells that mean a lot to you. Pay attention to the ones that relax you and bring you happiness. They can be powerful if you need them. 🙂
Hmmm I think we are going to make turkey dogs on the grill for dinner. 🙂 Seems perfect.
I hope that you have the most magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
