The Witch Head Nebula

How many of you have heard of the Witch Head Nebula?

Can you see her outline in the picture above?

Apparently, she is watching over us every night in our night sky.  How amazing is that!

The Witch is located in the Orion constellation and is associated with the star Rigel about 900 light-years from Earth. Her face is formed in a nebula which is a cloud of interstellar dust that reflects lights from the stars surrounding it.  Those stars are what contribute to the blue glow that you see in the picture above.  Many astronomers think that it is the remnants of the explosion of a supernova.  Frank Ross gave the nebula the nickname of the Witch Head Nebula in 1928.  It was formally known as IC2118.

Unfortunately, she is not available to see with the naked eye.  She can be seen by some telescopes when the conditions are right.

Have an amazingly magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
