First not every witch wears black, and we typically don’t wear it all the time. However when we do one of the reasons that we like to wear black is because black absorbs all colors instead of reflecting them. Let me explain.
Did you know that black and white are not considered colors? Black is the absence of color which is why it is not considered a color. Some people consider white a color because it encompasses all colors. Most agree that technically black is a shade.
Every color has a wave length and this wave length goes up and down at different levels depending on it’s frequency. Red is lowest wave length of light that is visible to people. You can see red from the furthest possible distance. That’s why emergency lights are red. If you go past red to infrared you will find that it’s almost impossible to see. Violet is at the other end of the spectrum with the highest wave length of light that is visible to us. If you go higher you have ultraviolet which is too high for us to see.
White light includes every single wave length simultaneously. It’s like playing 38 radio stations all at once. When you shine white light at a green tree all the wave lengths are hitting it but only the green is reflecting because the surface has a structure that rejects certain wave lengths of light and absorbs other wave lengths.
Black is the absence of light. A black surface just absorbs most wave lengths of light. Whereas a white surface reflects most colors back at you.
This is the complicated explanation for why this works. Black absorbs the energy of all colors. Therefore when wearing it you will find that you have the energy of all the different colors. This can help you in working with magick depending on what you are trying to do. In drawing in all this beautiful energy it can enhance your personal power and your connection to the world around you. This can also result in a boost to your intuitive abilities.
