Today I wanted to take a closer look at our fourth chakra, the heart chakra or Anahata chakra. In Sanskrit, anahata means “unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten”. I think that’s pretty powerful when you sit with that energy for a moment. Your heart chakra is located in the center of your chest and is associated with the color green or pink. I always think of watermelon Tourmaline when I think of the Heart Chakra and it’s a great stone to work with if you are working with this chakra. I believe that this is one of the most important chakras to focus on when you are working on personal healing as it is a balance point for all your chakras. Having this chakra out of balance or cluttered can affect the rest of your chakras, so it’s a really important chakra to work with regularly.
As its name suggests this is the chakra of love, both self-love and love for others around us. It helps us with how we interact in all of our relationships. When this chakra is balanced you will feel more accepting of yourself and the world around you. Some signs that your heart chakra may be out of balance can include jealousy, isolation, high dependency on others, shyness, shortage of empathy, and inability to be happy. Physical symptoms can include asthma, lung diseases, back problems, and heart problems. So what do we do if we are out of balance?
Foods to help open this chakra include any green leafy veggies. Green tea can be beneficial as well. The heart chakra corresponds to the air element, so look for foods that correspond to this element such as broccoli, cauliflower, and squash.
When choosing gemstones to work with for this chakra, you want to go with the green ones. Look for stones like Watermelon Tourmaline, Emerald, Malachite, Jade, Agate, and Aventurine. You can also use some light pink stones as well. My personal favorite gemstone for doing heart chakra work is Rose Quartz. I find it incredibly soothing and it really helps me to open up my heart chakra. The energy of the rose quartz seemed more soothing to me when doing this type of work, especially when working on loving yourself.
Take care to notice your posture throughout the day. Make sure you aren’t slumped over, crunching the energy of the chakra. Yoga is extremely effective. Simply showing love to other people will help to maintain this chakra. One of the biggest things I’ve found to help me with this chakra is trying to breathe through it. I lay on my back and focus all my energy on my heart chakra. I then try to draw in energy, air, and love through the chakra to get it working. Since using it in this way I’ve found I sense things much more with this chakra, like when the angels or my guides are around me.
Have a magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
