The holiday season is a chance to spend some extra time with friends, family, and loved ones. This time of year can also be tough when you have loved ones who have crossed over to the other side. One of the things that I love in the Samhain season is honoring and celebrating our loved ones who have walked before us and are waiting for us to join them one day on the other side. I personally like carrying that energy with me all year in different ways but I find that during December and Yule I love doing things to let loved ones know they are still close and remembered always. One wonderful way to do that is to set up a Yule Altar for loved ones on the other side. It’s quite simple to do and honestly the best one is the one that comes from your heart.
Choose an area of your house that is quiet that you can use for an altar for your loved ones. Decorate it for the holidays with perhaps some pretty lights, trinkets from holidays gone by, and anything else that you can think of that you wish to have as a tribute to your loved ones. Place pictures of your loved ones on this altar. You can dedicate the altar to one loved one or have it for more than one loved one. It’s truly up to you. This is a personal space for you and your loved one and it should reflect this. I personally have a couple of small spaces in my house for loved ones on the other side that are special to me.
As an option, if you wish, at the front of the altar you can place a box. You want this to be a box with a hole in the top or a cover. This is your holiday message box. In this box throughout the season, you can write notes to your loved ones on the other side. Just fold them up and put them in the box for them to receive.
Light candles on the altar whenever you wish to give them an extra tribute or enhance the energy on the altar. Just be sure they are away from flammables.
It’s a really nice way to have an extra connection with your loved ones through the holidays. Feel free to customize these and add whatever you wish. It’s your loving energy that will add to it.
