Create Your Own Florida Water for Magickal Use

Florida water is something that you can make that has many purposes and can be quite helpful in your magickal work. It was previously popular in the 19th century as a staple in most homes as it had many uses. It was used as a cologne by both men and women, and a general scent for rooms, etc, but also could be helpful in healing things such as insect bites, colds, nausea. Along the way it has lost its popularity with the general public and is now used primarily by people who work with natural energy and magick for cleansing, protection, and connection with spirits. The water will help draw positive energy to you as well as peace, prosperity, and success. When you clean your home, you can incorporate it into your cleaning and it will help brighten your home and keep the energy balanced and for your greater good. Please note, that it is is flammable, so you will want to keep it away from flames. When making it, typically we use essential oils which may stain so be careful to use it as a spray and not anoint directly on cloth as it may stain the fabric.

Living in the States, when I first heard of Florida my mind immediately jumped to the sunny state of Florida and I was curious if it had something to do with its name. The word Florida actually means flower in Spanish and thus it is water made of flowers and herbs so aptly named. Although it has the word water in its name, it’s useful to note that it’s primarily made up of alcohol. It is also important to note that there isn’t one correct way to make this. This is something that you will find many variations of, and you can choose which one tickles your nose the best, and that seems to call to you. Feel free to work with the recipes and tweak them to what smells best and feels best energetically to you.

Below is one recipe that I have that you can try out and change as you wish. Traditionally no water was used and alcohol was. The reason for this was the fresh flowers and herbs. So when you make this you can either use fresh flowers and herbs with more alcohol, or you can use primarily water (think moon water) and essential oils.

Florida Water Natural

  • alcohol
  • fresh-squeezed lemon
  • fresh-squeezed orange
  • cloves
  • lavender
  • cinnamon
  • rose

Florida Water (made with essential oil)

  • Moon water
  • lemon oil
  • orange oil or bergamot oil
  • clove oil
  • lavender oil
  • cinnamon oil
  • rose oil.

Enjoy!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong
