“Carry your candle, run to the darkness
Seek out the hopeless, confused, and torn
Hold out your candle for all to see it
Take your candle, go light your world”
– Kathy Troccoli
This is a beautiful piece of art done by Pepper Lynx. She painted it inspired by the lyrics to the song that you see above and I thought it was just perfect for today.
Growing up I was always working with people and looking for ways that I could help. I’m not sure if I ever told all of you but I was actually a Girl Scout from the age of 5 all the way through school. I was given the Gold Award for the work that I did with others. That award took several years and involved a lot of community service and work to help others. Throughout my years I was blessed to experience so many different things. I received training to work with people with special needs and worked as a clown coach at the Special Olympics for many years. There are few things as satisfying as dressing up in bright colors and glitter to go encourage people to really reach for their dreams. The smiles from all the beautiful people I worked with those days will forever be with me.
One of the most amazing Summers of my life I worked as an aid for a girl who was 10 years old. Her name was Lauren. She was unfortunately confined to a wheel chair for life as she was unable to control her legs at all. To make things more difficult on her she also was unable to speak. It was just the two of us for most of the Summer and we worked hard to communicate and get her through each day. I will never forget her smile. I’ll be honest, my intention for my future was to work with people with special needs. That Summer I discovered that it wouldn’t be something I was able to do as I was too emotionally involved. It’s not easy watching someone struggle in that much pain day in and day out. As a young empath I didn’t understand why I was unable to separate my feelings and why I felt things so deeply. Today I understand those things and if I knew then what I knew now that may have been my occupation today.
When I worked as a troop leader and a camp leader I adored working with the girls. I worked with children of all different ages and it was amazing to see the difference that I could make in their lives. Teaching them to be strong and confident in life was always the focus and watching them grow was amazing.
There is something incredibly fulfilling about finding a way to help others in life and their are so many ways to do it. From volunteering at nursing homes for visits, to helping serve meals to the homeless, to taking time out to work with young children, or helping the animals at the local animal shelter, there are always people out there who need help. I’ve always felt that it was something important to help others any way you can. If you have any extra time in your life I encourage you to shine your light for others in some way and share your heart with them. I promise you will not be disappointed and you have the potential to make a tremendous impact in the lives of others.
Have a magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
