Kitchen Witch – Bone Broth(Or Veggie)

The photo above is a picture of dinner tonight. It’s a ham and fifteen been soup with potatoes and it was so incredibly yummy. The fun part? It was made with the ham bone from a spiral ham we had on the holidays.

We love easy crockpot meals that make the house smell amazing. This is especially true in the winter. There’s nothing quite like coming in on a chilly day or a day it’s been snowing to a house that smells amazing because you have something simmering in the crockpot. It’s always an added bonus if it smells like garlic as I love the smell of garlic.

Something that we will do is when we have a meal that has ham bones or chicken bones we will either toss them in the crock pot that night or sometimes we will put them in a bag in the freezer until we are ready to use them. Fill the pot with water, add some garlic, and set it on low for 24 hours and you will have the best broth. From there you can make magic happen, add veggies, tofu, meat, whatever you want. Honestly… it’s quite good plain as well. Oh! If you are a vegetarian you can use this same method with veggies! You can cut up fresh ones or use the scraps from veggies that you are cutting up. It’s a great way to minimize waste. In the crockpot for this meal, we used a bit of leftover ham, a bunch of beans, and potatoes. It was so yummy. We almost always have a loaf of sourdough that makes it much better. As another tip, if you can’t finish a loaf of sourdough or other bread, you can dry it in the toaster, cut it up, throw it in a small food processor, and toss it in your soup. It thickens it up and makes it more filling.

Enjoy!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
