Lady Fortuna – The Goddess of Luck and Fortune

How many of you have heard of the Goddess Fortuna?  Right away I bet many of you will recognize that her name is quite close to the word fortune.  Fortuna is the Roman Goddess of luck and abundance.  She is often depicted with a cornucopia or a bag of coins to show her energy of abundance.

Fortuna was the first born child of Jupiter the King of the Gods in Roman mythology.  While her name is fortune and that brings up images of abundance for many of us we must also remember that fortune can represent taking a chance and that chance can produce good or bad results.  Many kept statues of her hoping to increase the chances of their fortune taking a positive turn in their lives.  She is the Goddess of the Wheel of Fortune.  No one knew where that Wheel of Fortune would stop. For those of you who read tarot you know that the Wheel of Fortune always brings change.  When you find the Wheel of Fortune comes up in the cards or in your life you may want to call upon the Goddess Fortuna and ask for her blessings.

The beautiful Italian Goddess also resembles a fertility Goddess and as such she was called upon to help with abundance of the land and female fertility.   She was also known as “Fortuna Primigenia” which means first mother.  If you are someone who is trying to get pregnant she is a wonderful Goddess to work with.

In ancient Greece she was known as the Goddess Tyche and her Father was Zeus.
She is also known as the Goddess Tyche by the Greeks.  In Greece you will find many temples devoted to her.

I hope you have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
