Litha/Summer Solstice Blessings!

I absolutely love the Summer Solstice.  Everything is in full bloom and New England has turned this gorgeous shade of emerald green where everything is thriving.  It means summer is finally here and it’s that time of the year that I get to spend tons of time outside.  My office is officially moved outside to onto my deck most of the time.

Today is Litha, also known as Summer Solstice.  It is the longest day of the year and the day that light and life on our Mother Earth are in abundance.  The Sun God has now reached the moment of his greatest strength,  he is the lord of the forests.   While you may see the date fluctuate from the 20th to the 23rd depending on what coven you are a part of, I celebrate Litha on the Summer Solstice which takes place today. Occasionally you will also see the date June 25th used by some covens, this was a date that was previously used for Litha.

Just like the crops beginning to grow, the seeds of our wishes that we planted early in the springtime are now coming to fruition as well.  You should be starting to see results of your magickal work that we set in place in the spring and at the beginning of the lunar cycle.  This is a very powerful time of the year and I find that I always feel strongest this time of year.  With the energy of the sun recharging me every day, and being able to walk barefoot on the earth to gain positive energy and keep myself grounded, this is a very important time of year for me.

How many of you love the fae? We have a fairy garden here, and we love looking for them during the summer. Last night was Midsummer’s Night Eve which is important for those of us who believe in the Fae. It is believed that on the night of Midsummer’s Eve at twilight, a portal will open from our realm to the fairy realm.  Twilight is my favorite part of day, hands down. The colors that happen at twilight are just amazing and I find I’m always awestruck at just how pretty everything is.  It always seems more amazingly beautiful during the summer months as well.  That luminescent blue that occurs right after sunset before the stars and midnight colors take over the night always has me mesmerized.

Celebrate Litha by reaffirming your vows to the Lord and Lady or your dedication to following the traditions of our craft.   This is a great day to go and build daisy chains, collect flowers, watch the sunrise and the sunset, make offerings to the fae, work in your garden, take a barefoot walk, basically anything to celebrate the sun god and our beautiful Mother Earth.
