For those of you who have been with me for a while you know that Old Sturbridge Village is one of my favorite places to go. It’s just a wonderful place to get away from it all and step back in time. This time of year they have an event to celebrate the season. In years past they had the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This year it’s called Phantoms and Fire and it features actors performing some of the short stories of Edgar Allan Poe located all over the Village.
This is the flyer that we received for the night. Earl did an amazing job keeping it almost perfect! 🙂 It gives you an idea of what was available for us last night. At the bottom is Nevermore. That lists the actors and the characters that they played from the work of Edgar Allan Poe. They were all really amazing.
As soon as you stepped into the village you were taken back in time. I just love the simplicity of the candles burning in the lanterns.
Pumpkins lined many of the stone walls and they had carved ones all over the village for us to find.
The actors were in front of various locations throughout the village. They had some benches out for us to sit and watch. This was Evangeline. This was the story of the Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe changed from a man to a woman being the one who murdered their spouse. She was excellent!
the event started at 5:00 and went by incredibly fast! This was a picture that I took for you of one of the farm fields and all the beautiful fall foliage lining the field.
Of course, some modern-day lights just add to the magick of the night. They had these simple orange lights added around the house for just a bit of orange that honestly was just right.
Something about little orange lights, old houses, and dirt roads.
They had stations set up for the clues & candy everywhere. The kids found all the stations and had their paper stamped. On the way out they were given a bag of goodies from the Village. Even the big kids wanted to play. 😉
A man played the violin for us on the steps of the old bank.
As we were only one night after the Full Moon it was still quite full as it rose over the old apple orchards.
Horse-drawn carriages were available to take you for rides around the lake during the night.
This was the prettiest scene last night. It was so hard to get a good picture of it. They had the lakes lit up with fire barges and the Full Moon just made the lake glow. It was just so pretty. I posted a couple of videos to my page on Facebook for you to see. The first is of the fires on the lake: https://www.facebook.com/100044306250137/videos/pcb.427083925445146/460998365297517
The second one shows the first on the lake. You can see it a bit better than in the picture: https://www.facebook.com/100044306250137/videos/pcb.427083925445146/433362581546833
This is the covered bridge on the side of the lake.
Down at the farm at the village there isn’t a lot of light from the city. This old farmhouse just had the orange lights on it and the sky was so clear! You can actually see the stars in the picture it was so clear.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures!
Have an amazingly magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
