Many years ago now I found Star Walk for my phone and it really changed how I viewed the night sky. If you have a smart phone you should be able to get the Star Walk app for free.
I borrowed one of their images as it’s helpful to show you how it works. You can hold your phone up to the sky and it will help you identify what you are looking at. There have been so many times that I’ve seen satellites go by or I’ve wanted to know if I’m seeing the planet I’m looking for and Star Walk is such a huge help. It’s fun just to sit outside with it and look around to see what is out there as well.
The one you want to get is Star Walk 2 as it’s the newest one. It helps you to find stars, constellations, planets, satellites and more. It really can make sitting out under the stars incredibly interesting as you identify everything that you are seeing. There is also a section that tells you important things going on that you can look for like meteor showers.
