Stuffing a Mandarin in the Stocking Toe

Finding an orange or mandarin tucked in the toe of your stocking has been a beloved tradition for many years. Do you know why?

One legend tells of a shoemaker who couldn’t afford for his three daughter’s to get married.  When Saint Nicholas came that year to deliver his gifts around the world he sent three bags of gold down the chimney, one of which ended in each daughter’s sock that was hung by the fireplace to dry.  After that an orange would be tucked into the toe of each stocking during the holidays to represent the gold and generosity that was shown to the shoemaker on that day.

While today we are lucky and find oranges pretty much everywhere, we must remember that this is a modern day luxury.  During the depression the stockings were filled with food as that was more of a treat at that time.  Things like nuts and fruits were special as they were special holiday treats.  The orange in the toe was one thing that they looked forward to the most as it was difficult to get at the time.

Oranges are known as the fruit of joy.  When working with them they will bring you happiness and joy. Citrus scents are amazingly uplifting and will help you feel more energized during the holiday season.

I hope you have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
