The Changing Wheel of the Year

I was chatting with a friend yesterday who had recently moved from somewhere that was warm year round to a place that she would be experiencing the four seasons of the year as they are often depicted with beautiful flowers in the Spring, lush gardens in the Summer, vivid changing leaves in the fall, and snow in the winter.    Many of you know that I live here in New England and experience the four seasons.  While they can vary in terms of warmth, length and intensity we always have four seasons here and it’s something that really helped me to gain a deeper understanding of the Wheel of the Year.  That understanding got even deeper when we started having gardens in the growing season.

I’ve lived my entire life by the seasons.  When they teach you the different seasons in Kindergarten and put Daffodils up for April, Apples for September, Pumpkins for October and snow for January that is pretty consistent with our growing season out here. It really changes things when you are deeply influenced with the changing seasons.  I honestly think it has had a huge impact on how I view the Wheel of the Year because we truly go by it here.   For instance while many of you who live in warm climates (yes I get jealous) enjoy that year round, we are typically counting down the days until the Spring Equinox.  I’m super excited for Imbolc because it means Spring is coming!  If I’m being honest one day we have talked about moving somewhere warm.

No matter where you live, you experience the Wheel of the Year.  It just may look a bit different where you live.  For instance, where Earl was from instead of winter he had a rainy season.  Look for how the seasons shift in your area and see how they impact your life. This will help you to connect more with the Wheel of the Year.  Then if you find you want to, you can do things to enhance your experience with the Wheel by planting indoor or outdoor plants with the changing seasons, eating seasonal foods, decorating your home by the seasons and anything else that you can think of to enhance your experience.

Have an amazingly magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
