I am someone who firmly believes that the arts and magick go hand in hand. The base of magick is working with energy, and any time you do something with the arts, you are taking your own energy and expressing it in some way. You can use art in so many ways to help you with your energy work and spell work in your craft. Even if you aren’t creating something that you intend to use in your craft, art is an amazing way to connect with yourself and your personal energy. It allows you to relax your mind and tap into your intuition more. For these reasons, I will always promote art. I also love the time that I am able to spend in the arts.
Today I have a resource for you that I think is pretty amazing. How many of you have heard of Bob Ross? I bet almost all of you have. It seems he’s been gaining extra popularity over the past few years. We even found a wonderful painting a day calendar from him that we are loving. A quick search of his name will bring you so many wonderful examples of the paintings that he created in his lifetime. What he is probably best known for is his television series, The Joy of Painting, which aired on PBS from 1983 to 1994. In each episode, he teaches you how to create one oil painting, and I’m telling you if you follow him, the results you can have are amazing! Earl has done some really exceptional paintings watching him. Even if you don’t like painting, there is something that is just so relaxing about watching him paint! Truly.
We are very lucky right now to have the entire series available on YouTube. It’s something that I hope they keep available. You can find it here: The Joy Of Painting
Many happy hours have been spent painting outside by the pond. You can pick up sets of oil paints pretty much anywhere. Make sure you get an extra big bottle of white oil paint. Some other things that you need are the brushes. A two-inch brush and fan brush, palette, palette knife, and some canvases. One of the wonderful things is that he doesn’t use a ton of items. You will notice that as you watch him. It makes it easier to get into oil painting and to follow him. The prices vary on all of these items. If you look around you can find them to be pretty inexpensive. Something that I can’t recommend enough is the odorless paint thinner. It’s worth the extra money! It also makes it so you can paint safely inside as well.
I really hope you enjoy him as much as our family has. Have an amazingly magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
