The Magick of the Ocean

Growing up in New England the ocean was a place that always called to me. I didn’t get to go a lot when I was young but the couple of trips that I did get to see it I found completely magickal. There was something about those waves coming into shore and the sand that just seemed to melt away beneath my feet that I just adored. I also loved standing on the shore looking out at the horizon wondering if someone across the ocean was standing at the shore looking our direction. From a very young age I decided that no matter what happened in life I needed to make sure that I lived close enough to the ocean to make it a day trip with my dream being to eventually live on the ocean or at least in the same town.

I am very aware that I am lucky enough to live as close as I am and I know there a lot of people who may never get to see the ocean. I always recommend that if you are somewhere that the ocean isn’t within driving distance that you try to take a vacation to it at least once. There’s just something about it that I believe makes most people fall in love with being there.

Many of you already know that water is naturally grounding. Salt is as well. When you have the opportunity to walk in the salt water of the ocean barefoot it has to be one of the most grounding activities I know. Walking is grounding as well and there is nothing quite as relaxing as spending a couple of hours walking up a beach as the sand gently sinks beneath your toes and the waves meet your toes. You can also hunt for treasures. So many times I have found beautiful shells or stones that have spent their time being polished smooth by the waves.

When my children were little I had them out to the beach most weekends. I spent hours building sandcastles under the umbrellas and digging swimming pools with the kids while under the umbrella. The time in the sand was always fun and they were always completely entertained chasing hermit crabs around and looking for fish.

Many of my happiest hours have been sitting on the beach spending time with loved ones or even by myself. I can sit and watch the waves coming into shore for hours. For those of you who live near the ocean or you have time to go you can do energy work with the waves. As the waves go out you send worries, fears or energy you no longer want with you out to see. It’s a really incredible way to ground and heal your personal energy. Have a wish or something you are trying to work on? Write it on a piece of driftwood and send it out to sea.

Another favorite activity is collecting things that remind me of the energy of the ocean. I will often create a mason jar filled with stones, shells, sea glass and other treasures that I find to bring back. It will stay on a shelf for awhile and eventually becomes a part of my gardens when I bring a new jar home. That way I get to spread the beautiful energy of the ocean out around my yard. It’s not uncommon to find sea glass and shells around my yard. You can also find shells with holes in them that you can make beautiful necklaces or chains to hang in your home.

The ocean is one of the most healing places that I know when it comes to energy. It’s also one of the most powerful places to set energy into motion for your desires. If you are lucky enough to live near the ocean look for ways that you can incorporate it into your practice more. If you aren’t near the ocean you can work with similar energy with different bodies of water. For example a stream can carry wishes or negative energy away. A lake will have beautiful calm energy and stones that will help you carry that energy home with you. There are always ways to find magick in the energy of the world around you.

Have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
