The Magickal Hearth

There is something about seeing a hearth in a home that is just incredibly soothing to me.  Here in New England I find it in some of the older homes, especially the ones that are from the 1600’s.  It was truly the heart of the home for a long time.  You would find that it not only served as the central place for cooking but for washing clothes, bathing, and other tasks that required heat or warm water to accomplish.  It was one of the rooms that people spent the most time in.

As time went on it shifted from the hearth being in the kitchen and used for cooking to the living room in the center of the home for heat.  Today I think that you will find the heart of the home is still the living room or perhaps a sitting room for some.  It’s the room that likely is the most comfortable where you spend most of your free time and entertain guests when they come over.

Even if we don’t have a hearth in our homes today we can still make the kitchen a magickal place.  If you walk into my home on any given day you will often smell something yummy in the kitchen as we love various aromas in the house.  Maybe it’s something simmering on the stove or in a crock-pot.  Perhaps it’s a candle going or an aromatherapy mister with some essential oils.  It’s the first place you walk into in our home and I love to be greeted by something that smells amazing to remind me that we are home and this space is sacred.

We also have our kitchen filled with herbs drying everywhere.  They are always on hand for teas or recipes.  Herbs, plants and other greenery are an important part to the energy in that room.  There is a kitchen table that is used for meals but also for homework, game nights and other fun things that require a nice large flat surface.

When you are looking to add magickal energy to your kitchen there are so many things you can do.  You want to remember that in adding magickal energy you are adding your personal energy.   That is what adds to the energy of your kitchen and your home.  Don’t forget to put your personal energy in there.

You can also add a small altar in your kitchen. This can be a small area that you change with the seasons or the wheel of the year.

In your travels you will find spells that center around hearths, especially older spells.  This can be the stove area of your kitchen.  Just remember to clean and cleanse the area before working in it.

If you are interested in looking into this topic more you will find so much more under Kitchen Witches and I’ve also seen some things under Hearth Witches.  There are so many things you can do to increase the energy in this magickal space of your home.

I hope you have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
