The Poison Garden

When checking in books at the library today a book caught my eye, Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden.

I was intrigued and spent a few minutes reading it. I just loved the book and I wanted to share it with all of you today because I know so many of you will love it as well. It’s about a girl and her Mother who move into a new home in a neighborhood where all the houses and gardens look the same. The little girl created a different garden… filled with things like Sneezing Stickyweed and Grumpy Gilflower Of course it immediately caught the attention of the people in the town… as for what comes next? Well that’s for you to find out! I encourage you to grab a copy of the book or I have a special treat for you. The author read the book on YouTube and you can see the book and listen to her read it here: Poison Garden.   I do believe a lot of you will love it.

On the last page of the book there is a note from the Author that the book was inspired by the Alwick Castle Poison Garden in Alnwick England. I immediately set off to learn more about this! If you live anywhere near here it looks like an amazing place to visit. For those of us that don’t I found a great video that introduces you to the garden, shows you around a bit, and explains the plants that call that garden home, what makes some of the poisonous and why education about these plants is so important. You can find that video and more about the garden on this page: Alnwick Castle Poison Garden. What I found most surprising is that I have at least two of the plants that they mentioned in this video in my yard! I’m pretty sure I have three! It’s a great video and I encourage all of you to watch it.

As a witch I do find some plants and herbs being used in spells that I question their safety. It’s always good to educate yourself on plants that are toxic and how they are toxic. You would be amazed how many plants you encounter on a day to day pasis that are toxic to people or animals in some way.

I hope you enjoy the videos and have an amazingly magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong
