When I was little I had a deep love for the bright-colored Salamander that you see above. We did a lot of camping and I was always excited when it rained as after it stopped there was a very good chance I would be able to find a new friend. I would have a bucket filled with grass and such to make the perfect home and I was always sure to let it go back to its Mom at the end of the day. I do want to note that you do want to take care with handling salamanders as some varieties are toxic and we can also harm them with the oils in our skin.
As many of you who work with magick know the salamander is closely associated with the element of fire. Surely this one with his bright orange color helps with that association. However, Salamanders are also associated with water. I mentioned that they often come out after the rain. The variety that I showed you above is a red salamander from Massachusetts known as the Eastern Newt. He begins his life in the water with full gills that allow him to breathe in the water. He then comes to land in his red newt stage which is when we will often find them. Finally, he returns to the water as an adult. They are most often found in the areas that are wet. As you know Earth and Fire are opposites making for some interesting energy that has the potential to be balancing depending on the salamander that you are working with and what stage of life he is in. As many of you know salamanders come in all different shapes and sizes depending on where you are located. It can be fun to learn about the ones in your area and as always, I encourage you to do so! It can be fun to go out and see if you can capture their picture with a camera.
Salamanders go through a lot of transformation in their lives and they will often come to you when you are working on navigating changes in your life. They have several different perspectives to offer you when working with this energy. They spend a lot of the time navigating in the dark so they are able to provide you with a lot of energy to strengthen your intuition and help you to see what may not be immediately visible. They also spend a lot of time on the ground so they will bring you strong Earth energy to help you to ground but also the energy of details. They can help you to see the little details close up to help you gain a greater understanding of things happening.
The Salamander has a more complicated life cycle than many and you will find that they often bring you energy to help you to look at your cycle of life. You may find that they bring you the energy from the past to help you to connect with things that you may need to remember. They also can help to connect you with the energy of the future to help you to gain a greater understanding of where you are going.
I hope that you have the most magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
