Welcome October and to the First Day of the Countdown to Samhain!! We are going to have so much fun this month! It’s time for the Season of the Witch and it all starts here today! Are you ready?
So I have a spooktacular month planned here for you on Moonsong Daily Magick. This entire month we are going to be looking at things to do with Samhain and Halloween from Samhain traditions to ghost stories, tricks and treats, fun crafts, recipes, history, and anything else that I come across that I think you will enjoy.
When I was little I adored Halloween and I looked forward to it all year long. I honestly remember loving it more than Christmas. I couldn’t wait to start drawing Haunted Houses at school and to dress up as my favorite character and go out on Halloween night. I also found so much joy at my library! I would go to the library to check out all the ghost and witch stories I could find. Do you remember how amazing the Halloween kids books were? They had so many of them! How many of you remember Dorie the Little Witch? Ok I might have looked for those year-round as well but they always seemed to have extra this time of year.
I felt the calling to be a witch quite young in my life. I wrote to Laurie Cabot in the 5th grade. 🙂 The writing for my future was always on the wall I just needed to learn to embrace it. That I have done and this time of the year is so much fun. So much so that you are likely to find things to do with it in my house year-round. I’m a witch is my excuse to the family as I tuck all my goodies around the cottage that we call home.
We have officially entered the Season of the Witch and many of you know that it’s a pretty powerful time in terms of energy. Samhain is a beautiful time to celebrate our ancestors and those who have gone before us. It’s also a time to release things in our lives that we need to let go of in order to make room for new energy with our Witch’s New Year. This year we have Eclipse energy in October. We just came off of Four Full Super Moons and we are headed into eclipse season beginning with our New Moon on the 14th. 2023 is trying to keep you on your toes, especially coming to the end of it. This Eclipse energy as you know brings incredibly powerful energy of transition and change. Much of this will be based on the foundation you were building and the changes you made over the last several months. It’s a time of endings and new beginnings that it going to amplify the energy that Samhain brings so be open to letting go of things that you need to in order to make room for new things to come your way.
Our Full Moon is on the 29th of this month. This Moon is also known as the Blood Moon or the Hunter’s Moon. As we enter the dark half of the year, you will find that the veil is at its thinnest, and communication with the other side is strongest now. After the Full Moon, we move right into celebrating Samhain and Halloween on the 31st. Then we go on to celebrate our Witch’s New Year starting at midnight on the 31st and moving into November 1st. On November 1st many of us also celebrate the Day of the Dead. So much fun right? I absolutely love October.
We have entered the Halloween Haunted House drive-by again this year so I should have some photos coming for you soon and perhaps some videos as we get our front yard all set out and start bringing out the fog machine. Our Pirate Skeletons are making a comeback this year. Hopefully with some added movement and perhaps even some… bubbles… 🙂 We are having fun with it. I am so excited about all the wonderful things that this month is bringing our way and celebrating with all of you!
