Wind Magick – The Power of the Wind

March is known for the winds that it brings.  These winds are amazing to brings changes into our life and help us to welcome Spring.   As the wind is currently blowing in some pretty big gusts with the storm that we have over New England today I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about Wind Magick with you.

Have you ever sat outside and just felt the wind? Did you ever take the time to really feel it, to not only feel it blowing across your face and through your hair, but the energy that it carries along with it? Often during rituals you will see the Winds invoked to aid in the power and energy of a particular ritual or spell. This is an ancient practice and tradition that has been carried forward and is still used widely today.

Each direction of the wind carries with it a different energy.

“Heed the North wind’s mighty gale:
lock the door and trim the sail.
When the wind comes from the South,
love will kiss you the on the mouth.
When the Moor wind blows from the West,
departed spirits have no rest.
When the wind blows from the East,
expect the new and set the feast. ”

North Wind – This is probably the wind that you see depicted most often. I remember it being featured in a lot of the Christmas specials when I was little. :)))) The North Wind is all about change. Growing up in New England I am most familiar with references to the North Wind bringing the cold winds of winter such as the first stanza of this poem suggests. It is also the wind associated with death and the color black. It is an excellent energy if you wish to rid yourself of anything such as a bad habit, negative energy, or anything else that you can use a strong energy for. It is said that it will blow anything you wish to be rid of away.

South Wind – As the North Wind is associated with the color yellow and is known for being a very energetic, warm, and passionate wind. It’s excellent for matters of the heart and can help stimulate passion in relationships. In all matters of the heart, this is the wind to call upon to assist you with it’s energy.

West Wind – The West Winds are associated with the color blue. This wind is amazing to work with if you want to cleanse your energy and work with self healing. The West Wind is also known to help you with your intuition and to facilitate messages from guides and the spirit realms. You can also call upon the West Wind to assist you with any emotional matters, this can include matters of the heart as well.

East Wind – The East wind is associated with the color white. The East Wind is all about new beginnings. It will bring about transformation in your life. It’s also associated with intellect. If wisdom is what you seek call upon the Winds of the East.

Each of these Winds has very important energy and they all work very well together which is why you will most often see all four of them called together. It is best to invoke the Winds when working outside.

You will often see the winds called upon in conjunction with the watchtowers. Depending on the tradition you follow this may vary.

You can call on the energy of the winds in any of your rituals or spells using the method that you are most comfortable using. I usually just call them by saying the following:

Winds of the North, be with me tonight,
embrace me with your energy in love and light.

Repeat for each of the Winds, substituting the proper name.

You can also use the wind as a form of divination. The next time you feel a strong breeze blowing on your face, pay attention to the direction it is coming from, it may just be trying to tell you something. :))))

Much Love and Many Blessings,
