Working with the Lunar Phases

How many of you pay attention to all the different phases of the Moon? I think a lot of people notice the Full Moon and perhaps even the New Moon but did you know that there is different energy associated with all of the phases of the Moon? It can influence how you feel, things happening in your life and you can find that certain phases are better for working with different types of magick than others.  Today I wanted to give you a quick overview that I hope many of you will find helpful.

Waxing Crescent Moon – (First Quarter)

The Waxing Crescent Moon occurs when the illuminated part of the Moon is increasing. The light is growing and this gives you the opportunity to grow the things that you wish to see happen in your life. This is the ideal time for magick that helps you to grow the things that you want to manifest. It’s time to move towards what you want the most in your life. This is a great time for committing to your intentions and the path that you are walking. The Waxing Moon represents the Goddess in her Maiden aspect. The Maiden is all about new beginnings, youthful ideas and enthusiasm. It’s a great time to dream and consider pursuing those dreams that mean the most to you.

Waxing Gibbous Moon – (Second Quarter)

The Waxing Gibbous Moon occurs when the illuminated part of the Moon is almost complete. We are in the phase just before the Full Moon. This is a good time to look at things that you’ve been working on and making any adjustments that you may need to. There is power in looking at the details during this time. This phase of the Moon is notorious for helping you to see things that you may to change in your life or reevaluate. It gets you ready for energy of change that may happen in your future. You may also find that you feel strongly about things, energy of inspiration and passion run strong and you may find that you are pulled strongly towards things during this time. It’s a great time to work with magick that will help you to reach your goals and magick that has to do with connecting with yourself and working with your intuition.

Full Moon – The Full Moon is when the Moon is fully illuminated in the sky. It is the time of greatest power and the perfect night for magick and ritual as it’s a night where energy is in abundance. Many of you may find this to be a more emotional time or a bit draining as the energy can be so intense. Make sure you take extra good care of yourself during this time. You may find that intentions set during the New Moon come your way around this time. Things that you’ve been trying to manifest may finally move in around you. Be open to receiving energy of abundance during this time and success. The Full Moon represents the Goddess in her Mother aspect. She is fertile and abundant gaining knowledge. When working with magick on the night of the Full Moon you want to work with magick of balance and harmony. It’s often a great time to grow the energy of things that you’ve been working on.

Waning Gibbous Moon (Third Quarter) – The Waning Gibbous Moon brings us a time where the illumination of the Moon is decreasing. The intense energy that the Full Moon may have brought our way is starting to move away as well. You may find yourself feeling a bit more vulnerable during this time. It’s a time that you may be more open to love and abundance, especially if you’ve had some positive results for work that you’ve been putting in with the Full Moon. This is a wonderful time to spend extra time with friends, family and loved ones. If you have challenges in your life, you may find that it’s easier to see them from different perspectives during this time. When working with magick during this time think about energy of transformation and alignment. Make sure that the things that you are working on during this time align with what you want in your life and the direction that you are headed.

Waning Crescent Moon (Fourth Quarter) – As the illumination of the Moon decreases further we have our Waning Crescent Moon just before the New Moon. This is a time of release as you get ready to welcome new energy into your life. You may find things coming to a conclusion around this time or you may find yourself tying up loose ends. Energy loves to stay balanced and this is the time that you let go of what you need to move away from you in order to make room for new things to come your way. This is a great time to reflect upon where you have been during this lunar cycle and how you want to shift things as you move forward into the new lunar cycle with the upcoming New Moon. You may find that clarity is strong during this time and allows you to have a better idea of the directions you want to move in and things that you want to work on next. This a time for study, meditation, and little magickal work except magick designed to banish harmful energies. The Waning Moon represents the Goddess in her Crone aspect.  It’s a time to celebrate the wisdom gained through life.

New Moon – The New Moon is the start of a new lunar cycle. The New Moon brings energy of new beginnings, hope, faith and optimism. While the Moon is barely visible in the sky you have a beautiful clean slate and chance to begin new things in your life. Think of it a bit like a time for a personal reboot. You can use this time to make sure that you recharge your personal energy by grounding and centering and maybe going through your home with cleansing energy as well. When working with magick, use this night to plant seeds for new beginnings and move energy that will help to set the pace for what you want to happen this lunar cycle.

I hope that you have the most magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong
