Did you know that a lot of brooms are made from a special crop called Broomcorn? It is a variety of Sorghum that looks a lot like corn when it grows. Instead of corn, it has these fibrous tassels that are decorative and can be used to make brooms. The tassels can be from 12 – 20 inches long.
Broomcorn comes in a variety of types and colors giving you tons of options when working with it. Most of the colors fall within what I would consider Autumn colors being varying shades of reds, yellows oranges and even blacks that can look almost purple. The time that you harvest it can also influence it’s color in addition to the variety that you plant.
Here are some examples of Besoms made from broomcorn from the Broomchick on Etsy. Besoms are brooms that are used in rituals and for special occasions like weddings. They are typically not used for sweeping thought they can be.
These brooms are from Mystic Earth and they are another great example of broomcorn brooms that can be used for ritual or decorative purposed.
That’s not to say that all brooms made with broomcorn are for ritual or decorative purposes. You will also find that broomcorn is used to make many of the multi-purpose brooms that you see on a day to day basis.
I’ve also seen broomcorn used to make other things like beautiful wreaths. The wreath above is from ClubBotanic on Etsy.
I hope you have a magickal day!
