Hocus Pocus

“Poor Thackery Binx. Neither his Father nor his Mother nor the entire town ever knew what became of him those 300 years ago. And so, the Sanderson Sisters were hanged by the Salem town folk. Now, there are those who say that on Halloween Night, a black cat still guards the old Sanderson House, warding off any who might make the Witches come back to life.”

In 1993 Disney released my absolute favorite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus.  I have watched it every year since.  As a girl who had always been interested in Salem and Witches it was a complete home run for me.  I just watched it again the other night with Cole and he loved it.

Three Hundred years ago when the Sanderson Sisters were hanged in the town of Salem for the death of a child that they drained the essence of life from they cast a spell that they would come back for one night when the black flame candle was lit by a virgin. You will love watching them on their one night back and seeing what happens.

For those of you who love Salem as much as I do, you will love knowing that not only is the movie set in Salem but they actually filmed a lot of it in Salem as well.  In my trips to Salem I’ve actually been able to start picking places out.

For example the opening scene in the village was filmed at Salem’s Pioneer Village.

The town hall is located right in Derby square.  For those of you who are interested you can check out more here: Hocus Pocus Filming Locations in Salem.

Hocus Pocus and The All-New Sequel by [Jantha, A. W.]

The other reason I wanted to share Hocus Pocus with you today is last year they released a book that is the sequel.  My son found it the other day in the library.  The book contains the original story that you see in the movie and a brand new story that takes place with Max and Allison from the original story 25 years later.  For those of you who are fans of the movie this is definitely something you will want to check out.

I hope you have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
