Pipi is a barn owl located in the Czech Republic. At first glance you will likely notice something a bit different about Pipi… she doesn’t look like most other barn owls…
That’s right. Most barn owls are very light. Pipi has a gene mutation that is 100,000 to one called melanism. Melanism happens when the dark-colored pigment melanin is increased. You can see the beautiful impact that it had on Pipi.
Unfortunately, nature and other owls don’t agree with me on how beautiful Pipi is and they would often kill an owlet that displayed dark colors like Pipi. For that reason, Pipi is living her life with a beautiful person who decided to help give her a wonderful life. Pipi was born in July of 2020. It also is why it is incredibly difficult to find an owl that looks like her.
