Saturday I managed to grab a much-needed day off and Earl and I went to Old Sturbridge Village today. I always tell him that it’s like the farm that I can’t have yet in life. I’m just so at peace there. For those of you who have been with me for a while you know it’s my happy place. I had a couple of exciting things happen yesterday that I wanted to share.
The first happened quite early in the day. Sometimes I just get these nudges and I follow them. I was watching the sheep in the field eating. Do you see how big the babies are getting? So cute. I just knew I needed to look down and I immediately saw a penny. I knew before I even picked it up that it would have the year I was born on it. I was born in 1976 so it’s not like that’s a penny you find frequently anymore. Honestly, I find pennies in general are harder to come by as I know a lot of us use debit cards and don’t carry cash as much. I was really excited. I had all I could do to hang onto it! It was so hot! I was bouncing it in my cap trying to cool it down.
They had a special event last night that made it so that you could come back after the park was closed. I was incredibly excited as one of the features of the night was a naturalist who was going to give one our tours of the woods around Old Sturbridge. Perfect right?
The lady who led our tour last night was awesome! She specialized in foraging. One of the plants we learned about last night was garlic mustard. It’s a highly invasive plant that we need to work on getting rid of as it’s disrupting things. If you like garlic and mustard you will love it! What an amazing spice to work with. I got to sample it last night. You want to get it when it’s young as it tastes better. Apparently, as it matures it gets more bitter.
We went hiking deeper in the woods to find some incredible stone formations.
The absolute best part of the walk though was the barred owl. I didn’t get her picture as I was so busy admiring her. At the beginning of the walk, our guide told us that if we were lucky we would hear a barred owl in the woods. I told her about the pair that I have living in the park across the street from my house. I hear them most nights and I’ve been lucky enough to see them several times now. Just about 10 minutes into the walk, the owl swooped right in front of us across the path from one tree to another. It was amazing! I couldn’t even talk I just tapped the guide and pointed as it happened so fast! I finally managed to say “there she is” as she got settled in the tree. She was so close! We watched her for a while and then she flew back across the path. Definitely an experience I wanted to share with all of you!
Have an amazingly magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
