We live in a society that is very fast-paced and many of us likely go through our days hitting the end of the day wondering where the day went and what happened. Part of being a witch is learning to sense everything around you so that you can be in tune with the natural world around you and match your energy to that of our Mother Earth. To do this though, you need to slow down.
One of my favorite ways to slow life down a bit, unwind, and ground my energy is going for walks. It has become my go-to for many many years now. I prefer to walk out in the woods when I can as I find being in nature just helps me to quiet my mind that much more. The next time you go for a walk, or even if you are just sitting in your yard, take time to sense everything that’s happening around you. Watch the birds flittering about gathering food and preening themselves in the trees or dancing around with each other through the air. Watch the chipmunks, squirrels, and other critters scurrying about and taking time to nibble on their newest find. When you slow down enough, you will notice that the animals around you actually respond to you. You will notice the birds cocking their heads to the side in curiosity as they look at you as if they have something to say. Listen to them and see if they do. Watch their actions and see if you can sense what message they might have for you.
Take time to lie down in the grass, or pick up a stick and notice the lines ingrained in it interpreting what they could mean, or to feel a smooth stone in the palm of your hand and note its energy.
Many people ask me where I was trained for my craft. I have been blessed to have a lot of formal training in my life with some incredibly wonderful teachers who had a strong influence on both my craft and my path in life. Some of my greatest teachers come from Mother Nature herself, for it is in nature and when I form these connections that I can hear, see, and sense clearly. The trees, the animals, the whispers of our ancestors on the wind, inspire me and infuse me with knowledge that I would not receive unless I took the time to become one with them. I can tell you, it’s worth every moment that you invest into your time with nature and the world around you.
It takes patience and practice, but the more you use your intuitive gifts to tune in to the world around you, the more gifts you will receive back in return. These gifts are the precious gifts of life. If you have little ones, teach them to see these gifts as well, for they mean more than anything that money can buy you.
