The Magick of Ferns

How many of you have ferns growing in your area? I know I have a healthy patch of it that Earl has been working on expanding over the past few years in some trees at the edge of our property.

There has always been something about ferns that has drawn me since I was little.  I loved the picture above as I can still remember searching for fairies under ferns covered with dewdrops and mushrooms in the woods when I was growing up.

Did you know that the first records of ferns are in fossils from over 100 million years before the dinosaurs walked the Earth?  This plant was once regarded as mystical because of it’s age and because people couldn’t figure out how they produced as they don’t have flowers or seeds? This led to some speculation in the Middle Ages that they flowered once a year on Midsummer’s Day.  These flowers were said to produce invisible seeds which were believe to have great powers if you could find them like allowing you to become invisible or giving you the ability to see the future.  Today we know that they reproduce from spores.  I like the idea of going out hunting for them on MidSummer’s Eve.  Ferns have always seemed magickal to me and this seems like something fun to do.  They definitely have a wonderful presence in your magickal work at MidSummer Night and the Summer Solstice as well as other Summertime ritual work.

Ferns are wonderful for protection.  They are perfect to grown around your house and around the edge of your property.  They make a beautiful addition to pretty much any yard.  Use them in sachets and other amulets for protection.  They also enhance concentration so if you need to study you may find that they are helpful when you sit near them.

While I use to love them as a child, funny enough I found that energy to be accurate as they are said to attract the Fae.  If you have a Fae garden this would be amazing to have in your garden.

Have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
