Lavender is a scent that I always find relaxes me instantly. That’s likely what comes to mind when many of you think of lavender is it’s incredibly calming scent. If you have any stress in your life, incorporating lavender can really help you to release that stress and anxiety so that you feel more grounded.
Lavender is one of my favorite herbs. I have several of them around my yard as I love the smell. Here in New England it can come back each year but it is really dependent upon the winter. I had a couple of lavender plants that I had for several years and then I lost them to a cold winter. Last year I planted six new ones and most of them came back this year.
Last year Earl made me this potted Lavender for next to my desk. I have a lamp with two LED bulbs next to my desk. One of them I aim down at the Lavender. It is loving living here and I am loving having it here. It smells amazing. We didn’t know it would do as well as it has! We may have to give it a new pot soon as it’s been growing so large. Loki is snoozing in the background. He stays with me most of the day.
Lavender is a short perennial shrub that belongs to the mint family. Interesting right? It is in many different parts of the world and has a wide variety of over 30 different types for you to choose from. It’s known for it’s beautiful purple flowers.
The name lavender comes from the Latin word lavare which means to wash. This originates from the Romans who use to use lavender to make their baths smell good. While it smells amazing and is incredibly relaxing it’s oils also can pack a powerful punch. It has a long history of being used as a cleaner because of it’s antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It can kill parasites and lice and helps to repel flies and mosquitoes.
There are so many different ways to work with lavender. You can have the plants in your home or in your yard. Just touching the leaves gently releases their beautiful scent. The oils can be used in all types of aromatherapy. It’s an incredibly common herb so you will have no problem finding it in everything from bath soaps and oils to candles and essential oils that you can use in your oil warmer.
If you are having any digestive issues or problems with sleep you will find lavender tea amazing. Not only does it smell good but it really tastes good as well. The tea is made from the flower buds.
When it comes to magick lavender has a lot of wonderful uses. One of my favorites is energy cleansing. You can add it to your sage smudge sticks or even use it on it’s own to make it’s own smudge stick for cleansing and purification. I’ve used the incense to clear the energy in rooms as well before doing readings or ritual.
Lavender is known to attract love. It will bring loving and calming energy to you and help attract new love into your life if that is your desire. It also will help attract peace, happiness and healing energy to you.
I hope that you have the most magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
