One of my favorite flowers that I try to grow in my garden each year is the Moonflower. I must confess its name drew me to it many years ago when I first purchased this plant. When I first brought it home, I didn’t realize just how unique this plant was.
Moonflowers open in the evening to greet the Moon. Isn’t that amazing? While most other plants sleep in the evenings and some flowers close, the beautiful Moon Flower opens to greet that moonlight. You can watch them open as it gets dark out.
Have you ever made a Moon Garden? Moonflowers are a really great place to start. Choose a special place that gets plenty of moonlight during the growing months. I also like to use Evening Primrose as it opens at night. My goal is to get both of them blooming in the same place at the same time! This year perhaps. Choose other flowers that have white blooms or that you think may reflect the moonlight in the way that you want. You can also add things like white stones that will catch the moonlight. Statues that glow in the dark and tiny lunar lights are other things you can add. Moon gardens can be a lot of fun to create. Back to the Moonflower!
The Moonflower is a cousin of the Morning Glory, another of my favorites, which is why you will find they look a bit similar. Like the Morning Glory, the Moonflower is a plant that loves to climb so be sure that you have a trellis or something available for it to climb on. It has the most beautiful scent that comes on the night winds. That being said, I have heard that only certain people can smell the Moonflower. I know I can smell them. See if you can!
I hope you have a magickal day!
Much Love and Many Blessings,
