When I was little, my grandmother used to keep jars full of old buttons. I have so many vivid memories of sitting on the floor and playing with the buttons. Perhaps it was because I had a vivid imagination as a child, or perhaps a bit of my intuition was kicking in, but I used to hold each button in my hand, visualizing the item of clothing it came from and the people who owned it. It was something that I found incredibly entertaining, and I would sit there for hours.
Unfortunately, after my Grandmother passed away, my Mother got rid of the button jars. I must confess that I keep an eye out for them in old thrift shops and such in my area, as I swear I would know them if I ever found them. They are something that I would have loved to keep safe. What I know some would see as just buttons, I found had so much history.
If you have a button jar that’s been passed down in your family, try spending some time with it. You may find that you can visualize who the buttons are connected to. If you know who they belong to, it can actually help you establish an energetic connection to them. Physical objects that belonged to someone on the other side can be incredibly helpful for improving your connection. You can also work with visualizations, as I used to as a child, and see if you can visualize what item of clothing they came from and who they belonged to. It’s a great exercise to stretch your intuition.
If you don’t have a button jar, don’t worry! Consider making one for the future. They are often at tag sales and thrift stores. It’s funny, even looking at the picture above, I recognize a lot of them! You can find some incredibly old ones as well. At one point, I was researching some of the buttons, and I remember some of them went back to the late 1800’s that were in my Grandmother’s jars.
