Gemstones and Water

Gemstones You Should Never Put in Water

Did you know that water can actually harm some gemstones? It’s something that you want to be careful of when caring for your gemstones and crystals. There are several that can’t go in water because it will damage them.  Today I just wanted to touch on the ones that I know of for you.  A popular way to cleanse them is to run them under cool water.  I also know that many of you, like myself, love tucking them in special places outside where they may be impacted by rain.  Why would water hurt them? It can cause them to crack, rust, break down or lose their beautiful color depending on what you are looking to put into water and the composition of it.  One thing you want to look for is to ensure that the stone you are looking to clean is above a 6 on the Moh’s hardness scale.  The soft ones can break down more easily.  You will also find that any that have iron in them can rust when exposed for longer periods of time.  I always encourage double-checking any gemstones or crystals that you have before exposing them to water.  Here is a collection of the names that I have in my Book of Shadows as being the ones that you don’t enjoy time in the water.  Some of them you should never put in, and some of them can only be immersed for a limited time.

I hope that you have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
