The Art Abandonment Project

How many of you love making crafts of any type? Maybe you love to paint, knit, draw work with pottery or any one of a wide variety of creative projects that you can take part of.  How many of you love surprising others with things that will make them happy?  I have a fun project to introduce you to today: The Art Abandonment Project.

I was just introduced to this yesterday by Earl’s Mom.  It’s a bit like the painted rocks that have been going around but a step up from that.

The idea is that you leave pieces of art in varying places as gifts for others to take with them to brighten their day.  This is a pumpkin that his Mom left somewhere for others.

This is a penguin that she left out.  Aren’t they cute? She made them by painting cement! I asked her if she’d be willing to teach us how so keep your eyes open for an article coming soon.

The Art Abandonment Project from what I can tell goes back to a book that I found from Michael deMeng and Andrea deMeng that came out in 2014 called The Art Abandonment Project.  You can see a bunch of different examples of art that has been left out for others on the cover.  The idea is to create to share these random acts of kindness that will make days a bit brighter for others.  It’s a winning situation right? It can be as simple as a drawing or as complex as jewelry that you’ve made, a painted flower pot or anything else you can find.

There is a group on Facebook dedicated to this project.  You can find them here: Art Abandonment. They are a great place to get ideas or to share your ideas with others.  So many wonderful stories and pictures of art are in this group.

You can also search Art Abandonment on Google for some ideas.  Just be sure to put it in exact or you will find pictures of lots of abandoned places.

I hope you have fun with this! Earl and I will be painting some cement flowers, pumpkins and gravestones to leave around our town that his Mom sent to us.  It’s just so much fun to know something you have created will help put a smile on someone else’s face.

Have an amazing day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong
