The Magickal Daisy

For as long as I can remember the Daisy has been my favorite flower. Something about the simplicity of it and just pure and simple colors always lifts my spirits. I’ve spent a lot of happy days collecting them with my little ones up in the mountains to bring home and put in a vase in our kitchen. They are finally blooming where I live.

The other day we were out for a walk at my favorite reservoir. I was excited to see them starting to bloom on the side of the road. When I came around the corner I was so happy to see them lining the entire path!

As you can see in the picture it was a bit overcast that day so their bright and cheery presence was like a bit of sunshine for me.

How many of you know who Freya is? Freya is the Norse Goddess of Love, Sex, Beauty, Fertility, War and Death. I bet many of you have heard of her and her stories in Norse Mythology. The Daisy is her sacred flower. As such you will find that Daisies are often associated with Love and new beginnings. You will often find that people give Daisies to New Mothers to celebrate the new love in their life.

Daisies are perfect to offer the Goddess at Beltane and at the Summer Solstice. Their cheerful colors will bring good luck and happiness to you and into your home when you work with them. See if you can find ways to incorporate them into your life. We are working on getting them to grow in our yard as I adore them.

Have you ever seen the Daisy Rings being worn as crowns at Beltane or the Summer Solstice? In Medieval days the Knights use to wear Daisies and the ladies would wear crowns of them on their head. This may have contributed to why you see them worn today.

The word daisy comes from “days eye.” The petals look like long lashes on a beautiful eye that opens to greet each day. They will bring you positive energy and peace to your days.

Have a magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
