A Magickal Midsummer Night’s Eve

In my opinion, Midsummer Night’s Eve is quite possibly the most magickal night of the year.  It’s finally warm enough to go outside as we celebrate the beginning of Summer tomorrow for the Summer Solstice and our longest day of the year. Another name for the Summer Solstice is Midsummer and that’s part of where tonight got its name as it’s the night before the longest day of the year. You will find that some use to see this time as the middle of Summer where others see it as the beginning. It really depends on where you are and what traditions you follow. In the past, our ancestors worried about the shorter days that were coming and they would often stoke huge bonfires on Midsummer night and the Summer Solstice to ward off the cold and encourage the Sun to remain longer.  As crops were incredibly important to our ancestors and depending on where you live heating your home may become difficult it’s understandable why they would want to encourage the Sun to stay. It was also a night where fertility was celebrating bringing blessings to the crops in hopes of a fertile season that would produce abundant crops.

Midsummer’s Night is also a time of magick. Many say it’s a night of high magick and a night to watch for unusual things to happen.  Lovers often dance around the bonfire or jump over it to bring their love luck and fertility. It’s the perfect night to go out and sit by the fire under the stars if the weather allows. Embrace the energy that is all around you and look forward to extending your celebration into the Summer Solstice tomorrow.

Here in New England, I have the fireflies adding their energy and sparkles to the night. This is also the time to celebrate the magick of the Fae.  You will find it all around you now and it’s one of the reasons that I adore Summer.  For as long as I can remember when I heard Midsummer Night’s Eve it instantly reminded me of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s always brought visions of the Fairy King and Queen to me in the Forest at night.  As a child, I remember loving stories about Fairies and magick.  If you had a love of reading you can probably think back to several examples of stories that involved the magic of Summer.

Look for that fun energy this evening, that innocence, that child in you that couldn’t wait for Summer to begin.  If you take the time to look for it, you will discover that it’s not so hard to find.

Have a magickal night!

Much Love and Many Blessings,
